Brokeback Mountain

I’ll get it out of the way right up front… Now we know why cowboys walk that way. Ok, it’s out of my system now. I wasn’t very excited about seeing this movie but I figured I had to just because it’s all everybody in Hollywood can talk about this year. It’s a very moving […]

Firewall

Very good movie. Harrison Ford plays a computer security expert who has spent his career protecting the information at the bank he works at. Some baddies kidnap his family and force him to find a flaw in his own system. Harrison kicks butt as usual. Theatre or rent, don’t buy.

Mrs. Henderson Presents

Another one from the Oscar list. Judi Dench is a rich WW2 era widow who decides to buy a theatre and shock the nation by featuring nude women on stage. Excellent film. It’s even based on a true story. Judi Dench plays her usual upper-class, say-what’s-on-her-mind, matriarch that’s so fun to watch. Bob Hoskins plays […]

Capote

I’ve been trying to see all of the movie that are up for Oscars this year. Capote follows Truman Capote as he discovers, researches and writes his non-fiction bestseller In Cold Blood. Phillip Seymour Hoffman delivers an excellent performance. I enjoy movies that are both entertaining and teach me things. Capote is a little heavy […]

The Pink Panther

I still don’t know what to think. Steve Martin as Inspector Clousseau and Kevin Kline as Chief Inspector Dreyfus spend the entire movie perfecting their ridiculous French accents. The accents are terrible, and funny. Half of the laughs come from the retarded accents. Beyonce (the next Queen Latifah?) puts in a decent performance. Worth renting. […]

Last Holiday

Watch this movie. It’s as simple as that. This is the role Queen Latifah has been waiting for. Comedies are always passed over by Oscar, which is a shame. I think this should at least get a nomination. Queen plays a woman who finds out she has 2 weeks to live and decides to do […]

Syriana

Not much of a plot that I could see. The movie was basically a bunch of semi-connected stories that had no real beginning or ending. I got the feeling that it was an anti-American, anti-oil documentary wrapped in a movie. Mildly entertaining. I woudn’t spend the money renting it.

Big Momma’s House 2

Some moron thought that there wasn’t already enough Big Momma in the world and decided to make more. Don’t bother, your time would be better spent cleaning your grout.

The Family Stone

The Family Stone is a Christmas movie. It’s about an eccentric, dysfunctional family and how they deal with the introduction of a fiancee into the family. It’s an all-star cast: Diane Keaton and Craig T. Nelson play the parents, Dermot Mulroney, Rachael McAdams, and Luke Wilson play the kids, Sarah Jessica Parker plays the fiancee […]

Underworld: Evolution

The sequel to Underworld. Finally, a movie that answers the question: How do a vampire and a werewolf make love? It turns out that it’s a love story. Perfectly entertaining. Rent.

The Island

I hadn’t gotten around to watching this movie because of all the terrible things I had heard about it. I really don’t know what everybody was talking about. The Island is perfectly watchable, a decent summer blockbuster, and maybe even a good movie. It’s a sci-fi mixture of a couple short stories I remember reading […]

The Family Guy Presents: Stewie Griffin – The Untold Story

This was my introduction to the world of Family Guy. The movie was hilarious in that “I can’t believe they said that” kind of way that The Simpsons was when it first came out.
