The Descent

A horror movie about a group of women friends who go spelunking in an unmapped cave system. Thanks to some cave-dwelling, pseudo-human, blood-sucking fiends, not many of the original group make it out. Decent movie, worth renting if you like horror movies.

Driving Lessons

Ben (played by Rupert Grint – Ron from the Harry Potter films) lives with his over-bearing, super-religious mother (Laura Linney). The film’s title comes from the fact that Ben is struggling to pass his driving test and the lessons from his mother don’t seem to be much motivation for him. At his mother’s urging, Ben […]

Material Girls

I can’t believe I watched this! Hillary and Haley Duff play heiress sisters to a cosmetics empire. After mismanagement by their trustee they go from riches to rags overnight. The two poor little rich girls have to save the family business and learn to be less spoiled along the way. The best part of the […]

Dreamland

Apparently all the pretty people live in a trailer park in the middle of the desert called dreamland. I enjoyed the movie but all of the reviews I read after the fact trashed the movie. Audrey, who just graduated high school, lives in Dreamland with her alcoholic father, and takes care of her best friend […]

The Last Kiss

Zach Braff again plays a young man struggling to find his way in life. This time around he’s engaged to the perfect woman and he refuses to let himself be happy. He has a fling, ruins his perfect life, and then spends the rest of the movie trying to make things better. It’s actually a […]

Pursuit of Happyness

Will Smith is trying for another Oscar nomination. Pursuit of Happyness is based on the true rags-to-riches story of a man who lost his wife, his home and his job but struggled through to become one of the top stockbrokers in the country. It’s a very touching story. Worth the theatre admission price.

Charlotte’s Web

Everyone has read the book. The movie is a very good adaptation. The animal effects are very well done. This is a definite if you have kids, and even if you don’t you should probably watch it anyway.

The OH in Ohio

Who knew Parker Posey was still acting? There are always some movies that you never hear about until they show up on the satellite dish with some goofy description. This is one of them. Everyone should see this movie. Lots of big names, light-hearted story, and a couple of laughs. Parker Posey plays Priscilla Chase, […]

Stranger Than Fiction

Excellent movie. Will Ferrel plays Harold Crick, an IRS agent who is exceptionally good at math, has obsessive-compulsive tendencies, no social skills, and lives alone. When asked if he has a girlfriend he responds: “I was engaged to an auditor once, but she left me for an actuary.” One day he begins to hear a […]

Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny

Jack Black and Kyle Gass play themselves in a very loose interpretation of their life and their band Tenacaious D. Very loose. Very, very loose. The story follows JB and KG as they seek out the pick of destiny. History tells us that the pick was fashiond from a chip of the devils tooth and […]

Happy Feet

Is there anything better than dancing penguins? Nope, don’t think so! This is the story of Mumble, an emperor penguin who expresses himself through tap dance rather than through his “heart song” like every other penguin. Personally I didn’t know penguins liked to sing, but then again, I didn’t know that penguins liked to tap […]

Deepwater

A “drifter” is released from a “hospital” and on his way across the country he finds casual employment in Deepwater as a handy man at a run down motel. This is a movie that received no press and that’s not a bad thing. It’s standard psychological thriller fare. All throughout the movie small, strange things […]

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

We’re all used to the Santa Clause premise by now. This is more of the same. This time around, Jack Frost (Martin Short) tries to invoke the “escape clause” and steal Christmas from Santa. I’ll tell you how it ends without ruining it for you: a cute kid with big puppy-dog eyes saves the day. […]
