Kabluey

Kabluey is a little quirky but incredibly funny. Lisa Kudrow plays Leslie, a mother of two young kids whose husband is away at war. She is having trouble coping alone – her kids are uncontrollable, she’s running out of money, her health insurance is about to run out unless she goes back to work, and […]

Donkey Punch

A stoopid movie about a bunch of party kids who steal a yacht, have a drug and booze party and then make a series of increasingly bad decisions when one of their group dies by accident. The title refers to how the first group member dies (oops, I gave part of the movie away). If […]

The Wizard

The 1989 classic! I watched this while I was dying with the flu and I think it brought me back from the edge. Fred Savage and his younger brother run away from home to travel across the country to participate in the Nintendo video game championships. Beau Bridges and Christian Slater play the boy’s father […]

Vicky Christina Barcelona

A Woody Allen film (in which he doesn’t appear) about Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Christina (Scarlett Johansson) who go to Barcelona for the summer and both have an affair with a carefree, mysterious painter (Javier Bardem). Long and meandering and nothing special.

The Deaths of Ian Stone

A horror/thriller about a man who is hunted and killed by demons every day only to be brought back to life by those same demons, have his memory wiped, and placed into a different set of circumstances. Sounds like it could be interesting but it’s only annoying. Pass.

Babylon A.D.

Vin Diesel is a mercenary in a post-apocalyptic world. Good action movie that requires little brain power. ‘Splosions galore!

Shotgun Stories

Two families of half-brothers in the deep south begin a feud after their father dies. Not a terribly cheerful movie but I still couldn’t stop watching it. We never meet the father but to give the viewer an idea of what he was like, he named his sons with his first wife Son, Boy, and […]

More of the same. Not worth watching.

Amazon Women on the Moon

Not really a movie and not really about amazon women on the moon. Think of this as Saturday Night Live in movie form. It’s a series of sketch comedy routines linked together by a malfunctioning tv. It sounds dumb but it was entertaining. An oldie but a goodie.

Gone Baby Gone

The story of a private detective and his wife who are hired to find a kidnapped little girl. Nothing is as it seems and then when everything is explained to us, nothing is as it seems again. Decent movie, not something to choose if you want to be left with warm-fuzzies afterward.

Serenity

The movie finale to the short-lived Firefly tv show. The movie is amazing, just like the series. It’s a shame that all the good tv shows get canceled before they’re given a real chance.

The Air I Breathe

This is another one of those movies made up of a bunch of short stories that turn out to be connected. These movies try to be deep but just get annoying after a while. Oooo, look how these people’s lives inter-twine, oooo, let’s get all philosophical about it. Oooooo, pass.

Surfer, Dude

This movie is 90 minutes of retarded California surfers saying “dude” and “bummer” to each other. The plot made no sense and I think I got dumber just by watching it. Pass, dude.

Smother

A guy loses his job, his wife is pressuring him to start a family, his mother moves in with him, and his wife’s strange cousin has taken up residence on his couch. The premise is decent for a romantic comedy but the mother is played by Diane Keaton so this film never had a chance. […]

Marley & Me

This movie is the equivalent of the entire experience of having a dog – from choosing him from the litter to burying him. It’s a wonderful movie with a necessarily sad ending but well worth the experience.

Blindness

People in a large city suddenly go blind and must learn to cope with life. A very good movie, but not for the faint of heart.
